Tunisia Accede to the Hague System and Madrid Protocol

The Tunisian Government has recently approved the accession of Tunisia to the Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement for the International Registration of Industrial Designs (Resolution no.77, dated August 11, 2011) and the Madrid Protocol for the International Registration of Trademarks (Resolution no. 78, dated August 11, 2011). The two resolutions were published in the Official Gazette on August 16, 2011. However, the Government has not yet submitted the instruments of accession to the WIPO.

According to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the Hague System for the International Registration of Industrial Designs provides a mechanism for registering a design in countries and/ or intergovernmental organizations member of the Hague Agreement. It is administered by the International Bureau of WIPO located in Geneva, Switzerland.

While the Madrid system for the international registration of marks (the Madrid system) established in 1891 functions under the Madrid Agreement (1891), and the Madrid Protocol (1989). It is also administered by the International Bureau of WIPO.
